The SEPE participates in the international symposium on domestic work and care

The meeting, which is celebrated until 2 march in Cartagena de Indias under the heading “ investing in Care In Order To Do domestic work decent work ”, seeks to design policies that promote investment in the economy of care and to provide decent employment opportunities to women and domestic workers.


The state public employment service (SEPE) is represented by its director-general, Gerardo Gutiérrez Ardoy, who has focused his presentation on the measures of protection for unemployment of women workers and domestic workers manipulated by the SEPE in Spain, and which include itineraries of training or refresher and retraining as a good practice.

The participation of the SEPE is enshrined in the area of the professionalization of household chores and care work, which has as its main objectives:

  • To stress the importance of vocational training and accreditation of skills in the area of alternative care, so that they can promote employment and decent work.
  • Submission of the next content of OIT on care and training.
  • Identification of progress, good practices and innovations in line with the road map for latin america, proposed by OIT.

This symposium is taking place within the framework of a partnership agreement between ilo and the ministry of labour and Social Economy of Spain, with the collaboration of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and the ilo international training centre. At the same will also contribute to the Ibero-American general secretary(SEGIB) and the Ibero-American Organization of Social Security (OISS).
